The Volkswagen Up has won many hearts from the time it was launched and now it has been honoree with the title “World Car of the Year 2012” at the New York International Auto Show last week. This has been a great honor for Volkswagen after winning the same award for the Golf VI in 2009 and for POLO V in 2010.
The Volkswagen Up faced a tough competition from 33 other competitors but its major rivals were the the BMW 3 series and the Porsche 911. Finally it ended up winning the “2012 World Car of the Year” award. The panel consisted 66 journalists from 25 countries. They were selected based on their proficiency and influence on the industry. The selection was based on criteria like performance, safety, impact, value and its appeal.

This is Volkswagen’s smallest hatchback powered by a 1litre 3-cylinder engine producing 110 hp with a price of around $15,000 which is below the price of Polo and its fuel consumption is approximately 4.2 l/100 km.
