The new Range Rover Sport is practically perfect car. The new features are vastly improved interior, the electric tailgate that whirrs silently up and down, the cool box in the centre console, and the picture on the color touch screen that shows you how high the water level round the car is when you wade through deep floods. This is a 4×4 that’s as much at home going slanting as it is going straight.
The 3.0 V6 diesels is the only Range Rover Sport you’ll ever need. Round town I touched 33mpg and close to 40 on a motorway. 60 take 6.5 seconds and the top tilt is close to 140.Opting for the forthcoming 4.4 SDV8 or supercharged petrol 5.0 V8 might make you feel more important, but the ‘ordinary’ SDV6 model is the one to have.
Its inherent balance makes it so much fun to drive. Supple and cosseting round town and awesome off-road, but delightfully wicked when you find a place to ring down to the engine room for full power. Switch into Dynamic mode and you feel like you are piloting a hot shoe hatch.
